But if you have some idea... Joe Kido is one of the eight digidestined children who got suddenly transported to the digital world in order to save both worlds. He has the power to help his Digimon partner digivolve, and his digivice/crest also have special powers to help him to do his job.

Joe is the oldest of the digidestined; probably only by a few months but you can tell he is the oldest. He's reliable (as you'd hope), a good student, and the tallest, but he isn't the leader or anything, although he does feel some responsibility for all the younger kids.

He also carries around the emergency supply bag.

At first, Joe, being a bit of a worrywart/complainer/hypochondriac/weakling (okay you get the picture ^^;;), finds it hard going in the digital world, but soon learns that he can be brave too, and does some amazingly gutsy stuff, participating in all the adventures.

His digivice first reacts in the first episode when he is worried about Bukamon, the strange creature he just met (and was scared of ^_^;) who is boldly challenging a Kuwagamon with the other in-training Digimon. Bukamon then digivolved into Gomamon.

Gomamon stayed in his Rookie state for most of the time, but learned to digivolve to the next stage, Ikkakumon, for some battles or when he needs to transport people across bodies of water. This happened for the first time in episode 7, "Ikkakumon's Harpoon Torpedo", where he digivolved to save Joe from falling off a cliff to his grisly death. ^_^.

Ikkakumon later learned to digivolve to Zudomon a long time later when the kids were in the real world fighting Myotismon. Excluding the angemon, he was the last Digimon to turn Ultimate.

Joe and Gomamon together battled against Devimon and his black gears, went to Server to find their crest and fight Etemon, took a break to serve a brief stint working in a diner (^_^;) and then joined up with the group again to return to the real world where they searched for the eighth child and fought (Venom/)Myotismon. When they returned to the digital world, they found it under the rule of Dark Masters and set about battling evil Digimon to help straighten the balance between light and dark. Joe and Mimi went with their Digimon to find allies and then rejoined the final battle against Piedmon and Apocalymon at the end.

And then the world was saved and there was much rejoicing. ^_^.

This is basically his role. He also appears in the second season of Digimon, set a few years into the future, but I haven't seen it yet and this site is, unless otherwise stated, about the first season which I just summarised very briefly. ^_^.
