Terminology
Here is some of the terminology I use on this page (most are commonly used on many anime sites, but a couple I have my own versions of meanings for)...
NO WAY is this any sort of detailed guide to the sorts of words anime fans use, just the ones I use.
sub = subtitled anime
dub = anime that has American voices recorded over the original Japanese ones, for English-speaking audiences
fansub = subtitled by fans
fandub = dubbed by fans
commercial = title that has the rights bought to release it to English-speaking public
shoujo = girl's manga
manga = usually referring to Japanese comics, although I might sometimes use it to refer to both comics and animation (such as the following definitions ^_^.)
raw = manga that is in Japanese but not subtitled/translated; left completely alone in its original form
fan service = where a manga is full of things like pantie shots (shots of under girls' skirts), big cleavage/large breasts, etc - presumably catering to male fans of the show
VA = Voice Actor (occasionally I'll use 'seiyuu', which means the same thing, although it more often applies to Japanese voice actors specifically)
purist = someone who likes something in its original form, I guess I usually use it to refer to those people who are very strongly against dubs
hentai = pornographic/perverted
ecchi = lewd (milder version of hentai)
