Love Hina opinions

This is just a kind of disorganised narration of my thoughts as I watched the series. Becomes progressively more full of spoilers. ^_^.

Thoughts on Love Hina after second episode...

I really like Keitaro. It's been a while since I saw an anime like this. It reminds me a leetle of Ranma - the exaggerated characters, mistaken cases, uncalled-for violence... the characters are all very cute. ^_^. But I don't like that sort of scenario, where a nice guy is getting beat up on over confusion and a girl's aggro. I mean I don't like violent anime girls much. ^_^. Not that some of it doesn't make me laugh, but this sort of thing does get a leetle tedious after a while.

Anyway, hopefully that part of it will settle down a bit. Heh, I don't know what I was expecting from Love Hina - I didn't know a thing about it when I started watching it - but this wasn't it. This is definitely one of the stranger anime I have seen. ^_^.

One thing I like is how the characters look their age. Like Keitaro does look about 20, and not a lot older, like most anime peeps do.

After the fourth episode...

Man, this thing with Keitaro being mistaken for a peeping tom and getting thwacked into the hallway/skyline is getting tedious. -_-. It was funny-ish the first couple of times but now it's terribly predictable. Every time he bursts into a room or something you just know he's going to catch someone in a state of undress and get whalloped.

Yup, this anime is definitely whacked! I'm like, what's with these two not recognising each other? Did they get amnesia? But it was the glasses. I thought they'd seen each other earlier, is all. ^_^;

And Narusegawa is only 17? Behh... I was saying just a coupla episodes ago that it's good how the characters actually look their age. She definitely looks like she's 20, and I thought she was. Oh well. -_-. But, she's supposedly graduating, and I didn't think people in Japan graduated at age 17.

Motoko looks to be in her mid twenties but she calls Narusegawa 'sempai'... so, she's younger than 17? That's a real joke. ^_^; I keep wondering how old Su is. She goes to Shinobu's school, and middle school is... ehh, we don't have middle school here. I have no idea. ^_^; But she must be older than Shinobu 'cos she has more of a figure, and in that dream where half the cast got younger, Shinobu was a baby but Su was just a little kid. I don't know.

Heheh, Kitsune really looks like a fox. Those eyes and that mouth when she smiles. ^_^.

Stop falling on people, Keitaro! Heheheh. And now they appear to have a turtle that can meow like a cat... man this show just gets better. *laughs*

I really, really like the eyecatch. They all look so cyute and the 'music' is cute too. ^_^.

Episode 8 is the best yet. With the dream where everyone's on a mission to save Princess Naru. Ahahahahaha! It's hilarious! Chibi Keitaro is so cute, and everyone in their outfits was so cute too. And Shinobu's transformation, hahah, that was great, so mahou shoujo. ^_^. I think this episode is just brilliant, having played such video games myself. ^_^. And, it got sweet when Motoko turned child herself to go join them. ^_^.

Okay, now the turtle's flying? Maaan. ^_^;;

I am getting really really irritated at the way girls glomp Keitaro and Naru gets mad at *him*. I know it's a comedy so the main character is meant to be a bitch but I don't find it funny. -_-. If Keitaro didn't have to keep getting that freaked look on his face as he got attacked all the time, this anime would be much cooler, is all. ^_^.

Oh my goodness. Now Su has transformed into an adult and is sending hundreds of turtles flying at her older sister from another world? This anime just crossed from quite freaky to completely and utterly insane. ^_^.

If this were a normal anime, episode 11 would continue on with what happened in episode 10 and try to make some sense of it. But I have a feeling it's going to be about something entirely different.

Sure enough, now Narusegawa is somehow an idol. o.O. That's pretty cool, though. I like anime music and stuff, and she's cute as an idol (as opposed to being at home and beating up Keitaro). ^_^.

Motoko now looks about 15 or 16, which is about how old she is, probably? It's weird 'cos she looked a lot older before. ^_^; Heheheh, Motoko and Shinobu as idols. They're such idol material, huh - Motoko feeling awkward and Shinobu feeling shy. ^_^.

Motoko trying on those different outfits was funny, especially the revelation that the fancy outfit was Haruka's. *laughs* And then switching clothes with Keitaro; ehh, he's such a nice guy. ^_^. But I'm rather glad she asked him; I mean, that she'd deign to ask him a favour.

Heh, she was happier to lose to a turtle than to Keitaro. ^_^;;

Ahhh, I actually cried when Shinobu finally called Su 'Kaora' and they hugged. Heheh. I didn't think this anime could make me cry. ^_^.

This, episode 16, showed a bit *too* much of Narusegawa for my liking. -_-. I hope Seta is not going to be around for much longer. He really gets on my nerves. What a tedious and boring character. -_-.

There *is* some character development as the series progresses. Motoko is becoming more mellow and feminine, which is great. I'm liking her more. And Shinobu is becoming a little happier and more outgoing. ^_^. Episode 18 was a really good episode. It showed more sides of most of the girls, especially Kitsune, into whom we never really been given much insight.

Ooooh... Otohime may have been the one Keitaro made the promise with? I hope she was. Otohime annoyed me before for being so dizzy and vague, but I'm liking her better now. She really is so easy-going that she's more likeable than Narusegawa. I guess there's no way Keitaro and Narusegawa won't get together - the whole series has been buiding up to it a LOT - but it'd be nice if he DID get with Otohime, someone who wouldn't beat him up all the time for no reason.

Now that we're in the last episodes, the story is actually progressing and seems more like a normal show. I wish Keitaro could get together with Otohime and be happy but I know he'll be with Narusegawa. Well, it'll be interesting to see how it works out, anyway!

Okay, the anime just made me cry again! Where Keitaro went for Narusegawa instead and they were kind of reconciled... when they finally got to talk to each other properly, and she didn't beat him up, and that music was playing in the background... I think the thing I like best about Keitaro is how he tries so hard to get into Tokyo U and keeps failing. It's so sad! Saying how no matter how hard he tries, he probably won't be able to keep his promise again... *sniff* But the scene was so sweet it made me cry. ^_^;

The episode itself was good. Keitaro torn, having to make the choice... the girls all recognising what he had done for them... because of Keitaro, my big brother and sister and me are all happy... because of Keitaro, I got to stay at Hinata-sou... because of Keitaro, I learned to become strong...

Hey, I don't know much about the Japanese system, but it seems to me that if you have to struggle for three years just to pass the entrance qualifications, you *might* not be able to keep up with the workload of the actual university course? I mean, surely the course is more difficult than the entrance to the course? It seems like Narusegawa will go to Tokyo U and Keitaro will follow next year - couldn't they have just given up on that dream and built a new one? Maybe that's what Keitaro meant when he said he couldn't run away from his dreams - that he couldn't stop trying to fulfill the promise?

Now, I reckon the series totally should have finished at episode 24. I have 25 episodes... I guess the series goes for a lot longer, then? But episode 24 would have been SUCH a perfect place to finish it. Mrehhh. Don't mind me, I'm just peeved 'cos I thought I'd be able to say I've seen the whole series and now it's too hard. ^_^;

Still, I rather like Motoko-centric episodes. I really disliked her at first but she's one of my favourites now. I love her voice, too. *watches more* Okay, this episode isn't so good at all. I'm sick of pantie shots and stuff. I liked the last few episodes because they were serious with a minimum of reckless violence and half-nudity. ^_^. And I'm also getting sick of the romantic tension... it's boring... what is this, anyway? I thought that all this stuff was resolved in the last episode, that Keitaro and Narusegawa finally got together. I guess it was just wishful thinking on my part - also because I thought that there were only 25 episodes in the series and thus I was approaching the conclusion of the story - but it sure looked like they got together at long last. -_-.

[Note: I am told that the series does actually end at episode 25. Strange that episode 25 exists at all...]

Anyway, looks like I'm finished watching the episodes I have. ^_^. I quite enjoyed the series thus far although I don't like the half-nudity and repetition of love tension stuff. ^_^; I guess it's good to finish watching here so I don't get annoyed with the repetition of it. Now to watch the Spring and Christmas specials! ^_^.

The Christmas special was pretty sweet. Poor Keitaro and Narusegawa, rushing to try to meet each other... getting a part-time job so he could buy Narusegawa the gift she wanted... and finally, Narusegawa semi-admitting her feelings to the world. It's nice that she took some initiative for once; she gives him very little encouragement.

Oh, can I take the Spring special to be the end of the series? Maybe not, but I guess I will. It's the last thing I saw and it finishes things off nicely. The best bit was the very end. Shinobu asked Narusegawa what she really thought of Keitaro. Narusegawa said "daaaaaaaaaai" while scenes of some of Keitaro's screw-ups were shown. You didn't know if she was going to finish with "kirai" (daikirai - I hate him) or "suki" (daisuki - I love him) but she said suki!! ^_^. ^_^.

And, and, and, somehow, somehow, THEY ALL GOT ACCEPTED! No fourth-time failure! Keitaro, Narusegawa and Otohime all were accepted into Tokyo U, at last. Fantab! ^_^. ^_^. Very nice ending... I guess I'm a sucker for happy endings. ^_^.
