The CardsThe cards were originally created by Clow Reed and sealed in the book of Clow. Sakura unwittingly broke the seal and the cards escaped, to wreak havoc throughout Tomoeda. Sakura gradually captured them all (Li captured a few but Sakura earned the right to keep them as well by passing the Final Judgement), and the cards liked and respected her for catching them, although they usually put up a fight or caused trouble before she caught them. After Sakura passed the Final Judgement, she became the new Mistress of the cards, earning the right to own and command them. She values the friendship she has with the cards, although the friendship is not shown very much. Sakura is the person the cards love most. The cards draw their power from the person who created them. After the Final Judgement, Clow's power is somehow cut off from them. I don't understand it all exactly, but Sakura has to recreate the cards with her own magic. This is draining on her but she is keen to transform all the cards; otherwise she can't use them, and they will eventually become just ordinary cards. The cards are originally Clow Cards but Sakura gradually converts them all into Sakura Cards using her own power of the stars. The cards each represent some kind of power and all of them have some useful application. Some of the more special, interesting or commonly shown cards include: Windy - one of the four element cards. This was the card responsible for scattering the others; it was the only one that did not have to be captured. Sakura first opened the book and read the card's name, thus activating it and causing a wind to blow all the cards away. Windy is the card that Sakura uses the most (except for Jump and Fly). Its form is of a beautiful woman whose body kind of trails into long wisps of wind. Sakura usually uses it to wrap around a wild card or to create a gust of wind that will catch someone who is falling. Watery, Firey and Earthy - the other three element cards. Earthy was the last card that Sakura captured. Each of them was pretty powerful, especially Earthy. When Sakura finally captured all four element cards, Kero was able to attain his true form again. Fly - this was the first card that Sakura captured. It had the form of a giant bird, which attacked Sakura. Sakura used Windy to bind its wings and stop it from flying. Sakura uses the Fly card a *lot*. As a Clow card, it attaches wings to her staff which she flies on like a broomstick, but as a Sakura card, it attaches wings to Sakura's back. This happened out of necessity, as Sakura needed her staff to be the Sword card rather than fly on it. Jump - I don't remember Sakura catching this card or what it looks like, but Sakura uses it often, usually to jump out of the way of danger. When she uses it, wings attach to her boots or skates and she can jump very high. Mirror - this card is special. It first appeared as a clone of Sakura who ran around causing trouble in the town, and everyone thought it was Sakura doing it. But after capture, the Mirror card is kind and a bit shy. She has the form of a pretty girl in a mirror, but as she comes out of the mirror she takes the form of whoever she is mirroring. Sakura uses the Mirror card when she needs to investigate something but has to have an alibi. Like if she has promised to meet someone but then has to ran off and capture another card, she may use Mirror to fill in for her. Usually it's covering up to her brother, because she doesn't realise her brother knows anything about the magic that's happening. The Mirror card seems to have a bit of a crush on Touya. ^_^. Touya can always tell that Mirror is not Sakura, but he makes Mirror promise that she won't tell Sakura he knows about her. He also gives Mirror a gift of hair ribbons, which her true form wears. ^_^. In one episode, Mirror was shown to be acting as a kind of spokesperson for the cards. She told Sakura that all the cards liked her and were willing to do their best for her. Dash - a very cute card ^_^. which has the form of a kind of cute dark-blue rabbity creature. Has some resemblence to an Eefi/Espeon. This card was weakened by Sakura but escaped and found by a girl called Rei. Rei kept Dash as a pet/good-luck-charm and found that as she had him, she could run a lot faster. Well, Li captured Dash and Sakura eventually got that card, and he shows up again later on. When Sakura hears that if she doesn't convert all the cards, they will eventually just become normal cards, she starts trying to transform all the cards at once. Dash is the last one she transforms before she collapses. Dash breaks out of its card and freaks out. It was scared and confused because Sakura converted it without a clear purpose. It went into panic mode and escaped, hijacking a bicycle and attacking Sakura. Sakura managed to subdue it and then soothed it by holding it in her arms and talking gently to it, apologising. This was a really cute episode that showed how much Sakura cares for her cards. Light - another card with the power of speech. The Light card was originally dwelling in Sakura's heart but it takes the form of a beautiful woman so that Sakura can capture the Dark card. Sakura then captures the Light and Dark cards together.
